There isn’t much that will keep Grande Prairie’s Julian Morissette from getting out to help others. Certainly not sub-twenty degree weather!
The 71-year-old man is always on the lookout for ways to improve the world around him. “When I know people can use help on anything at all, I’ll go help them,” says Julian.
Last October, he got a brochure about Project Porchlight with his utility bill. When he learned that we were asking for volunteers, he promptly signed up using our online volunteer form.
Decked out in his parka and Project Porchlight toque, Julian single-handedly delivered 800 CFLs to homes throughout Grande Prairie. “It took me at least three weeks,” he says. “I would start at 10:00 in the morning and some days I would go pretty well all day.”
Julian says the experience was rewarding because he was doing more than just handing out free light bulbs; he was educating people about the positive effect they can have on the environment by making simple changes.
For his part, Julian has replaced many of the bulbs in his house with CFLs. And he continues to help others every chance he gets.
The world could use more people like Julian.
