Kitchener was one of the most successful campaigns for individual volunteers in Southern Ontario. People were energetic and willing to work hard for Project Porchlight.
One of our more memorable and dedicated volunteers in this campaign was a woman named Bernice Gammy. From the first time we met her she was ready and excited to help spread the word about energy conservation. She was keen to deliver CFLs door to door, and incorporated her volunteer time into her daily routine of walking throughout the city.
Bernice is a perfect example of how you can take simple everyday activities and make them matter. Not only did she get a better workout (she bragged about her rock-hard leg muscles), she spread the word about energy conservation in the process.
All told, Bernice distributed over 450 light bulbs in her Beechwood neighbourhood. Thank you Bernice for setting a wonderful example and proving that simple actions matter.
