Project Porchlight Puget Sound

Simple Actions Matter in Puget Sound!
Thanks to more than 1, 100 dedicated volunteers and with generous funding from our sponsor, Puget Sound Energy (PSE), One Change’s Project Porchlight team successfully distributed 275,000 free compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs to residents door-to-door and at more than 120 community events during the summer and early fall of 2009!
Hundreds of people participated in Project Porchlight and proved that the residents of Puget Sound are ready to make a positive change to save energy and protect the environment. An amazing 127 groups in the community helped distribute CFL bulbs and empower people to believe that simple actions matter, including:
- 61 community groups
- 27 businesses
- 16 churches
- 23 schools
With 275,000 bulbs delivered that means big savings for Puget Sound including:
- Over 63 million MWh saved (mega-watt hours) over the lifetime of the bulbs
- Nearly $12 million in electricity savings per year
- Almost 70 million lbs CO2 avoided
- Over 5,800 cars off the road for a year
Congratulations Puget Sound! We did it!

“Volunteering is important. We all have a responsibility to give back in whatever way we can. We all are responsible for making our communities better places to live. I wanted the Lions to participate (in the Rock the Bulb campaign) because it was a hands-on project we could do. If each and every one of us does just one small thing, we can all protect our environment.” ~ Judy Ann Bergvall, Lacey Sunrise Lions Club
“People now have the information (they need) to start buying these kinds of light bulbs on their own. Volunteering that day was such a pleasure… This good experience makes me excited to do other community service projects. Project Porchlight was aiming for a better future by saving energy in the present,” says Kristen. “Since I'm part of that future, how could I not participate?” ~ Kristen Landen, Kentwood High School
“If we had more people working on projects like this, our world would be a much better place to live. I was so proud to see my 14-year-old daughter helping folks understand just how much energy they could save if they replaced all their light bulbs with energy-saving CFL bulbs.” Verle Ketchum, Fleet Manager, All Star Ford
