Richard Stockton College of NJ (Atlantic CIty, NJ): 5th Annual Community Engagement Award Winners
STUDENT ORGANIZATION WINNER - Water Watch Energy Corps
Nominator: Alex Wenholz, AmeriCorps Organizer for Water Watch
This year, Water Watch Energy Corps has had two waterway cleanups of Atlantic City beaches and Lake Fred, engaged over 120 volunteers in distributing more than 1,800 energy efficient CFL bulbs across campus, winterized a local business and two homes, and taught over 400 Atlantic City and Pleasantville elementary and middle-school students about energy conservation and recycling. Pretty impressive resume, according to Alex, and it's all thanks to the many students who have become involved with the group. In addition, they hosted two environmentalism workshops in conjunction with other organizations (Mu Sigma Upsilon and SAVE), ran a reusable water bottle campaign in which they gave away 450 bottles to help students save money and reduce their use of plastic, and fostered relationships with many community organizations, including the Noyes Museum, Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge, Galloway Twp. Clean Communities, the Unitarian Universalist Church of South Jersey, Hammonton Green Committee, Project Porchlight, Crossroads Youth Group, Atlantic City Public Schools, and Pleasantville Public Schools. All in a day's work!
