RentonReporter.com (Renton, WA): Project Porchlight to hand out energy-saving bulbs in the Highlands
Posted July 6, 2009 by OneChange

Project Porchlight is coming to Renton on Tuesday, bringing with it free energy-saving compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs to residents in the Higlands.

The community blitz will kick off at 5:30 p.m. with Mayor Denis Law and Renton City Council members at the Highlands Neighborhood Center, 800 Edmonds Ave. N.E.

In partnership with Puget Sound Energy and the company's Rock the Bulb campaign, Project Porchlight is giving out 275,000 free CFL bulbs door-to-door and sharing information on energy efficiency in neighborhoods across the PSE’s coverage area this summer and fall.

According to Project Porchlight, if every American changed just one old-fashioned light bulb to an energy-efficient CFL bulb, the reduction in pollution from energy production would be equivalent to taking 800,000 cars off the road.

After the kickoff, Renton community volunteers will go door-to-door in the Highlands to hand out CFL bulbs and talk to neighbors about the monetary and environmental benefits of energy conservation.
