The Northern Pioneer (High Level, AB): LCPS students support Project Porchlight
How many Canadians does it take to change a light bulb? One.
This is where Project Porchlight comes into play. According to Project Porchlight if every household in Canada replaced just one incandescent light bulb with an Energy Star compact fluorescent light (CFL), the reduction in pollution would be like taking 66,000 cars off Canadian roads.
La Crete Public School teacher, John Borges, jump started his students with the project by handing out CFL light bulbs in his Biology 20 classes, Friday, March 5. The students were asked to take their light bulb home and replace their current porchlight bulb with this energy saving one.
"This project was not a lot of work and should have the desired effect not only reducing carbon emissions, but also (lowering) electricity bills. The project fit nicely into the unit we studied with emphasis on the topics of the carbon cycle, carbon emissions, global warming and energy efficiency," said Borges.
