metronews.ca (Calgary, AB): Calgary Tower given a green light
Calgarians might notice the city is glowing green — literally.
In celebration of the conclusion of Alberta’s project Porchlight campaign, the Calgary Tower’s lights have been changed into green-coloured compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs.
“The Calgary Tower is an icon and the fact they are leaders is great,” Francis Kierstead of One Change said of the change.
One Change donated the CFL bulbs that will ultimately save the Calgary Tower $12,000 in energy savings and stop 104 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions from being released into the air.
Kierstead said 4,000 volunteers celebrated the end of the campaign yesterday, including Alberta Environment Minister Rob Renner.
“All Albertans have a role to play when it comes to the environment,” Renner said.
