Meadow Lake Progress (Meadow Lake, SK): A bright idea for Meadow Lake
Meadow Lake town councilors were introduced to Project Porchlight at last Monday’s regular meeting. Bryan Moriarty, regional manager of OneChange for Prince Albert and Northern Saskatchewan presented to council on the campaign.
He said the not for profit organization is bringing the campaign to communities across Saskatchewan this fall.
Volunteers will be handing out free compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) to households. “As our slogan states, ‘simple actions matter’ and by promoting the use of CFL bulbs we can reduce energy consumption and save households money,” he said. “On average each CFL bulb represents approximately $40 in savings over the life span of the bulb.”
Moriarty said Project Porchlight will deliver 210,000 free CFL bulbs to residents of the province. The campaign kicked off on Thursday and will last until November 15. “Project Porchlight promotes a practical, realistic way to use less electricity,” he said at the council meeting.
