Homecoming feels like home in Kingston

Project Porchlight had a super day last Friday on the Queen's University [1] campus, starting off in the University Centre where we were greeted with enthusiasm and excitement!

With Kevin (our program logistics co-ordinator), Nicole (office co-ordinator), Meg (regional co-ordinator) and I set up in a busy area of the JDUC, after a few hours we had met so many awesome people - students, faculty and university employees alike. Great energy all around!

We moved locations that afternoon and had our tables set up for the Queen's Homecoming Great Debate of '07. More amazing people dropped by, lots of whom tested their strength with our human powered light crank, and we gave out lots of bulbs. All in all, more than three dozen people volunteered to deliver our energy-saving CFLs in their neighbourhood!

After all that work, it seemed wise to cap off the day at the Grad Club, where our very own Rolf Klausener was playing with his band The Acorn [2] and was kind enough to give us some awesome shout outs and threw some t-shirts into the screaming crowd.

On Saturday, Meg held our first volunteer training session in K-town. A number of community champions picked up bulbs and bags to hand out in Kingston, and with their help, it was official - Project Porchlight was officially launched in Kingston! Over 1500 bulbs will be handed out in the Limestone City this week. (See photos from our weekend on Flickr [3].)

More volunteers are needed! 13,000 free CFL bulbs are to be given out door to door in the next couple of weeks. Please sign up to volunteer [4] and we'll get in touch. Thank you Kingston!
