There’s so much to do at Six Flags Great Adventure [1] in Jackson, New Jersey. The 2,200-acre park offers dozens of rides—including some very memorable roller coasters—as well as the Six Flags Wild Safari animal park and Hurricane Harbor water park.

On July 20, Six Flags offered yet another attraction: Project Porchlight was set up at the park’s Outer Mall to educate folks about the energy savings offered by compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs as well as the energy efficiency programs that are available through New Jersey’s Clean Energy Program (NJCEP) [2].

A total of 900 CFL bulbs were distributed at Six Flags that evening, part of Project Porchlight New Jersey’s campaign to distribute energy-efficient light bulbs to residents across the state. Project Porchlight is an initiative of One Change [3], and the campaign is made possible thanks to funding by the state Board of Public Utilities (BPU) [4] and the NJCEP [5].

Project Porchlight’s display included the educational Wheel of Knowledge as well as the Crank Machine, which demonstrates the difference between the amounts of energy required by CFL and incandescent bulbs. Roller coasters are always great, but it’s also thrilling to learn about how simple it is to protect the environment by conserving energy with CFL bulbs.

When it comes to protecting our environment, simple actions really do matter! Even something as simple as changing a light bulb can make a difference. By connecting with state residents one at a time, Project Porchlight is empowering people of all backgrounds to make smart, energy-efficient choices that protect the environment.
