Few things mark a perfect summer day as well as a cold, dripping ice cream cone. So Project Porchlight decided to beat the heat by making a pit stop at the 8th Annual New Jersey State Ice Cream Festival [1] on July 17 in downtown Toms River, NJ.

What a delicious day we had! As happy parents and sugar-fuelled children wove in and out of ice cream eating contests, balloon artists and stilts-walkers, they made time to visit Project Porchlight’s booth and learn about how they can save energy by switching to compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs. Our staff handed out 1,000 free energy-efficient light bulbs to the festive crowd, and spread the message that simple actions matter.

We visited the Ice Cream Festival as part of Project Porchlight New Jersey’s campaign to distribute energy-efficient light bulbs to residents across the state. Project Porchlight is an initiative of One Change [2], and the campaign is made possible thanks to funding by the state Board of Public Utilities (BPU) [3] and New Jersey’s Clean Energy Program (NJCEP) [4].
