On July 15, Project Porchlight spent some time with thousands of Point Pleasant, NJ children, adults and teens—not to mention their water-loving friends. We set up shop at Jenkinson’s Aquarium [1] at the North end of the Point Pleasant Boardwalk [2], and spent the afternoon and evening handing out energy-saving compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs and explaining the benefits of making the switch. The area residents were very receptive to our program; we heard from lots of people who had already replaced every bulb in their homes with CFL bulbs, and even recruited some new volunteers for future initiatives.

Our team attended the Jenkinson’s Aquarium event as part of Project Porchlight New Jersey’s campaign to distribute energy-efficient light bulbs to residents across the state. Project Porchlight is an initiative of One Change [3], and the campaign is made possible thanks to funding by the state Board of Public Utilities (BPU) [4] and New Jersey’s Clean Energy Program (NJCEP) [5].
