The annual Keyport International Festival in Keyport, New Jersey, is a multicultural music and food festival highlighting Keyport’s considerable appeal as a tourist destination. This year’s event, held on June 26, featured music, food, and various vendors representing a variety of countries and regions all over the world.

Project Porchlight was also on hand to educate fairgoers on the energy savings offered by compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs as well as the energy efficiency programs that are available through New Jersey’s Clean Energy Program (NJCEP) [1].

A total of 300 CFLs were handed out at the festival, part of Project Porchlight New Jersey’s campaign to distribute energy-efficient light bulbs to residents across the state. Project Porchlight is an initiative of One Change [2], and the campaign is made possible thanks to funding by the state Board of Public Utilities (BPU) [3] and NJCEP [4].

“Project Porchlight got a very good response,” says Carla Cefalo, Director of Keyport’s Office of Community Development. “The campaign is really amazing. This is an excellent time to promote energy conservation. With more and more New Jersey communities becoming sustainable and municipalities looking for ways to save money on green initiatives, promoting green is the way of the future.”

When it comes to protecting our environment, simple actions matter. “We need to protect the environment for future generations,” says Carla. “If there weren’t organizations like Project Porchlight helping to make people more aware, our environment would be in trouble. Getting the message out is very important.”
