Project Porchlight is coming to Renton on Tuesday, bringing with it free energy-saving compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs to residents in the Higlands.
The community blitz will kick off at 5:30 p.m. with Mayor Denis Law [1] and Renton City Council members at the Highlands Neighborhood Center [2], 800 Edmonds Ave. N.E.
In partnership with Puget Sound Energy [3] and the company's Rock the Bulb [4] campaign, Project Porchlight is giving out 275,000 free CFL bulbs door-to-door and sharing information on energy efficiency in neighborhoods across the PSE’s coverage area this summer and fall.
According to Project Porchlight, if every American changed just one old-fashioned light bulb to an energy-efficient CFL bulb, the reduction in pollution from energy production would be equivalent to taking 800,000 cars off the road.
After the kickoff, Renton community volunteers will go door-to-door in the Highlands to hand out CFL bulbs and talk to neighbors about the monetary and environmental benefits of energy conservation.
