Calgary Tower turns 'green' this Sunday to celebrate ‘Simple actions matter’ in Alberta!

The lights on the Calgary Tower [1] are literally turning green this Sunday. Not in celebration of St. Patrick's Day next week, but to celebrate the successful conclusion of One Change's [2] Project Porchlight campaign in Alberta. More than 4,000 Project Porchlight volunteers delivered over 800,000 energy-efficient compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs to residents across the province.

Now that’s a cause to celebrate!

Volunteers and supporters from all over Alberta have been invited to see the 'green' Calgary Tower and to be honoured at a volunteer celebration event hosted by One Change. Volunteers will be thanked by Alberta's Minister of the Environment [3], the Hon. Rob Renner [4]; The City of Calgary’s [5] Deputy Mayor, Brian Pincott [6]; and EnCana Corporation's [7] Executive Vice President of Corporate Relations, Gerry Protti [8]—sponsors of Project Porchlight. The evening’s entertainment will feature Grammy-nominated pop-country darlings Emerson Drive [9], along with several other star performers. The celebration will be emceed by comedian and television star Mag Ruffman.

For the past two years, volunteers from community groups such as 4-H [10], Boy Scouts, Alberta Junior Forest Wardens [11], Rotary, Kinsmen/Kinette, church groups, and hundreds of individuals traveled door-to-door, school-to-school, church-to–church, and community-to-community handing out free CFL bulbs, helping Alberta residents reduce their ecological footprint and save millions of dollars in reduced energy bills.

One Change is now developing a water conservation campaign and hopes that all of our Alberta volunteers will again lend a hand with the next 'one change'. Plans will be announced soon! For current news on One Change campaigns and events, please visit onechange.org [12].
