We’re doing our best to conserve energy, but there was nothing we could do about the blistering heat coming from the giant light bulb in the sky on June 29th. Under the blistering sun, Project Porchlight stepped out with 12 Calmar Secondary School [1] students to distribute free CFLs throughout the town. We met at high noon at the Calmar Council Chambers to go over delivery routes, slather on sunscreen and drink plenty of water. Then, we spent the next two hours sweating it out door to door.
Joining us were Mayor Kirk Popik and all four town councillors: Don Bartlett, Laurel Blackmore, Cathy Edmunds and Dan Sikora.
Thank you to very much to the town council and Calmar Secondary School [2] for helping make Calmar more energy-efficient. Although if that sun keeps beating down the way it did last Sunday, the CFLs won’t be getting much use until the winter!
A special shout-out goes to Elizabeth Hull with the Town of Calmar [3]; she helped organize the delivery and ensured that everything went smoothly.
