Our Ottawa Campaign
How do you stop 25,000 tonnes of coal from being burned, prevent 100,000 tonnes of greenhouse gasses from being emitted into the air and save $10,000 in energy costs? Install about 200,000 CFL bulbs. And that's just one city.
The Project Porchlight Ottawa campaign is what got the whole thing started. Our goal was to get 200,000 households in Ottawa to change one inefficient incandescent light bulb to one energy-efficient CFL bulb. To do it we delivered the bulbs door to door, along with our message of energy conservation, with the help of hundreds of fantastic volunteers and our generous sponsors.
We've now taken the One Change initiative Project Porchlight campaign to communities across Canada and the United States from Ontario, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, Yukon, Vermont, New Jersey and Puget Sound. By distributing one free CFL bulb to each household in Canada and the United States, we're hoping to empower people to believe their simple actions matter when it comes to protecting the environment.
