Project Porchlight is an energy efficiency campaign administered by One Change, a not-for-profit organization that advocates community engagement and environmental sustainability. The communications coordinator helps to implement Porchlight’s strategic communications plan and coordinate public outreach activities for our campaigns. This is a full-time position, based in Ottawa.
Responsibilities:
- Serves as the key liaison between the communications team in Ottawa and regional campaign staff.
- Coordinates communications-related activities for Project Porchlight.
- Oversees and helps manage community events across all campaigns, ensuring consistency and necessary communication between head office staff and field staff.
- Monitors events section of database to ensure that all events are tracked and properly inputted.
- Assists in the writing and editing of media releases, fact sheets, advertising copy and other materials necessary for the promotion of the campaign.
- Maintains relationships with key stakeholders, including media representatives, sponsors, partners, and members of the public.
- Customizes outreach strategies for the local campaign.
- Implements community engagement activities.
- Responds to information requests from staff, the media, volunteers, and the public.
- Assists in tracking of the communications budget.
- Monitors the communications strategy to improve external and internal communications.
- Communicates with outside service providers to ensure timely delivery of quality materials.
- Provides regional staff with communications updates and support.
- Oversees and updates content for the web site.
- Monitor and update One Change’s social networking sites (e.g., Facebook, Flickr).
- Represents Project Porchlight at community events.
Qualifications:
- Personable, with excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills
- Post-secondary communications or related degree or diploma, or equivalent experience
- Three to five years work experience
- Excellent writing and editing skills
- Demonstrated experience working with the media
- Ability to anticipate and respond to opportunities and challenges
- Strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task, and work independently
- Highly motivated, creative, resourceful and a strategic thinker, with strong teamwork and relationship building skills
- Proficiency with MS Office software programs
- Experience in a complex, diverse, not-for-profit organization an asset
- A clear understanding and demonstrated commitment to One Change’s goals and values
