POSITON: Events Coordinator and Communications Support – Caldwell, New Jersey 07006

Background:Project Porchlight is an energy efficiency campaign administered by One Change, a not-for-profit organization that advocates community engagement and environmental sustainability. One Change works with other participating groups to bring a variety of energy efficient residential lighting campaigns to residents of New Jersey. These participants seek to establish common themes in the branding and marketing of their programs in order to convey their collaboration to the public.

Position Type: Temporary - Full-time
Duration of Contract: 6 weeks, June 6 to July 15, 2011
Shift: Monday to Friday 8:30-4:30, some evening and weekends required
Compensation: $40,000 to $45,000 per annum (prorated)

Role: Reporting to the Campaign Manager, the Events Coordinator and Communications Support works closely with the Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator to ensure effective event promotions. The Events Coordinator and Communications Support may work with program delivery partners to coordinate and plan events and prepare Project Porchlight staff for participation in concurrent events. Additionally, the Events Coordinator and Communications Support provides leadership and support in the planning and implementation of the Campaign’s communications strategy and outreach activities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Event Responsibilities

  • Organize Project Porchlight recruitment and recognition events for volunteers
  • Coordinate logistics for all events
  • Research new possibilities for events
  • Work with headquarters communication team to create communications materials as needed for all events
  • Develop unique and interesting stories from significant and successful events to headquarters for web publishing
  • Work with partners to execute campaign deliverables
  • Report indicators of successful events and incorporate lessons learned into future event planning
  • Coordinate all post-event procedures and evaluations
  • Communication Responsibilites

  • Provide administrative support to the campaign for all communications-related activities
  • Liaise with headquarters communication staff for templates and best practice material as needed for external communication needs of the campaign
  • Maintain and update local campaign content (photos, event calendar, blog postings) on the Project Porchlight website
  • Assist in the development and tracking of communications coverage
  • Monitor the communications strategy to improve external and internal communications
  • Prepare weekly reports on program activities
  • Communicate with outside service providers to ensure timely delivery of quality materials
  • Represent Project Porchlight at community events
  • Respond to information requests from staff, the media, volunteers and the public
  • Education and Experience Required:

  • Minimum, Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum of four years event coordination and communications experience
  • Project management experience
  • Demonstrated experience working with the media
  • Maintenance of program/event budgets and timelines
  • Experience with tabletop events, fairs, and farmer’s markets
  • Familiarity with the process of obtaining permits
  • Knowledge of community groups and activities in the region
  • Experience with funder representation
  • Skills:

  • Possess excellent writing and editing skills
  • Possess advanced knowledge in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Ability to anticipate and respond to opportunities and challenges
  • Possess strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task
  • Possess excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills
  • Be highly motivated, creative, resourceful and a strategic thinker, with strong teamwork and relationship building skills
  • Possess a proficiency in the use of social media outlets
  • Must be able to work in diplomatic and culturally competent manner with diverse groups
  • Valid driver’s license (ability to use own vehicle is an asset)
  • Able to lift 25 lbs.
