The September 20th Melville Millionaires hockey game wasn’t a typical game for the club. As the Millionaires took on the Nipawin Hawks, an enthusiastic group clad in green jackets stood by the entrance and handed out 500 free light bulbs to the rowdy crowd.

The people of Estevan are 700 light bulbs (not to mention hundreds of dollars) richer after this past weekend. Project Porchlight stopped by the Estevan Bruins hockey game September 20th to hand out 300 free CFLs to the fans.

Turns out scoring goals isn’t the only way former NHL star Lanny McDonald knows how to assist. The hardcore player—who spent his professional career with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Colorado Rockies and Calgary Flames—stepped back on the ice to participate in an Oldtimers’ Hockey Challenge game at the September 9th EnCana Skating Party, in support of our Fort Nelson campaign.

The Fort Nelson and area minor hockey league came through big time for Project Porchlight this week. On September 9th, we showed up to the EnCana Skating Party to celebrate the opening of the city’s new arena. The kids took part in the free public skating session, and enjoyed the cameo by former NHL player Lanny McDonald.

Project Porchlight will be on hand when the puck drops to take in all the action. Between periods we'll be recruiting volunteers to help us distribute free energy-saving CFL bulbs to neighbourhoods across Okotoks.
The Porchlight team attended two consecutive nights of hockey with the Bisons in Strathmore and the Dragons in Drumheller. Proudly wearing our Porchlight hockey jerseys we were prepared for Alberta's hockey fans and boy did they show!
This Friday night, the Guelph Storm take on the Brampton Battalion, and Project Porchlight is there!
The Alberta Porchlight team is headed to Grande Prairie for the kick-off of the north-west Alberta phase of the campaign. A ceremonial puck drop and light changing at centre ice before the Grande Prairie Storm vs. the Olds Grizzlies hockey match will kick off the campaign.
