The Alberta Porchlight team is headed to Grande Prairie for the kick-off of the north-west Alberta phase of the campaign. A ceremonial puck drop and light changing at centre ice before the Grande Prairie Storm vs. the Olds Grizzlies hockey match will kick off the campaign.

Porchlight Alberta has launched!
Saturday in Medicine Hat was sunny but brisk - cheery. Perfect for the launch. Regional co-ordinator John Frame had already held an orientation for 50 volunteers and was helped to pack 60 bags by local Kiwanis members. The MedHat newspapers had run a half-page pic of John with bulbs and our recruitment ad. By the time we got to into town last night from Calgary (a three hour drive), we had every hope of a successful event!

With one million bulbs to deliver over the next three months, the Porchlight Team is in a period of rapid growth. Do you love community outreach and have an attention to detail? Do you dig the idea of planning and managing community events in up to 100 towns with dozens of community groups? Are you a kick-ass executive assistant who is unafraid to take prisoners and good Board notes?

We have 10,000 bulbs for Yukon residents. That's $500,000 in energy savings. We need help to get these bulbs out street-by-street in the communities beyond Whitehorse. Boxes of 100 bulbs are being sent to the communities by the Energy Solutions Centre. The boxes also include delivery bags, hats, pins... everything you need to deliver bulbs. All we need are volunteers.

How many light bulbs does it take to change the Yukon? 10,000.
How many does it take to save $50. One.

Porchlight's growing. We have three city campaigns confirmed (Whitehorse, Guelph and Thunder Bay) and strong interest from three other provinces. Just this week I was in Calgary to meet with a prospective partner from the oil patch. I know what you're thinking: Oil company sponsor an environment project?

Bill and his wife attended our volunteer training session and then delivered over 190 CF bulbs within their apartment building.

MP John Baird was just named the new Environment Minister. This is good news. Mr. Baird is an Ottawa-area MP who is described as a "rising star" in the Conservative Cabinet. He seems to have the PM's ear. We had a good chat with him about our program at a recent environment fair (see photo). And we've delivered a bulb to his house.
