Project Porchlight, have you any bulbs?
Yes, Fort Saskatchewan, many bags full
One for the puppeteer who keeps the children smiling
One for the shepherdess whose sheep keep mowers silent
One for mascot Auggie in tribute to your flock
And one for ice cream makers who gave us homemade stock
We had a fantastic time this weekend at the Fort Saskatchewan Legacy Park Family Festival! Over 800 people gathered on June 7th to celebrate, and we were front and centre handing out light bulbs and signing up volunteers.

Our booth was definitely in the most popular tent. We shared it with the Fort Saskatchewan Historical Society who served up free homemade ice cream all day. Turns out electricity isn't the only thing you can generate with a crank. Big thanks go out to Diane Yanch for getting us space in that tent!
Guests at the Project Porchlight booth included: City Councillor Gale Katchur, who also signed up to volunteer; Fort Saskatchewan mascot Auggie the sheep; and uber-talented puppeteer Anne Lario and her furry sidekick Kit Tango.
Besides the delicious ice cream - and of course our fabulous CFLs - one of the festival's highlights was the first seasonal appearance of the city's flock of sheep. Handled by Shepherd Kathy Playdon, the sheep provide a "ewe-nique" and environmentally friendly way of keeping Fort Saskatchewan's lawns clipped and fertilized.
