Spread the light - volunteer!
Posted by Dan | October 23, 2007

Hundreds of regular folks have volunteered with Project Porchlight, delivering energy-saving CFL lightbulbs in their neighborhoods, to their social circle, at community events. But there's lots of Porchlight bulbs to go around, and we need your help to get them out there!

Volunteering with Project Porchlight is fun (especially when you bring a friend) and easy to do. We contact you, you pick up a couple bags of bulbs, and you talk to your neighbors and friends where you live about how easy it is to save a few bucks on their energy bills and do a lot of good for the environment. Did you know:

  • a compact fluorescent lightbulb requires 75% less energy to operate, compared to an old-fashioned incandescent?
  • each CFL installed in place of an old-fashioned bulb saves half a tonne of coal from being burned?
  • a CFL saves 2000 times its own weight in greenhouse gases over its lifespan?
  • if every household in Canada replaced one old light bulb with a CFL, it would be like taking 66,000 cars off the roads?

Even if you've been into CFL bulbs for some time, chances are your neighbors may not know of all the benefits of this better lighting solution. Project Porchlight wants you to take action on an important environmental issue and help others make better energy choices.

Visit our Get Involved section to learn more about the ways you can help. When you're ready to jump into the action, fill in our volunteer information form and someone from our office will get in touch.

Be a light in your community!
