Project Porchlight Saskatchewan to launch in Regina on September 15
Posted by Suzy | September 15, 2008

Project Porchlight Saskatchewan will kick things off in style with a major launch event on Monday, September 15. The campaign launch will take place in downtown Regina at the F. W. Hill Mall on Scarth Street.

“After its incredible success in other provinces, we are very excited for Project Porchlight to come to Saskatchewan,” says Campaign Manager, Patricia Crowe. “Now it’s our turn to show Canada and the world that Saskatchewanians care about the environment and are ready to prove that simple actions matter.”

This fall, volunteers with Project Porchlight will distribute 210,000 free energy-efficient compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs across the province, providing Saskatchewanians with more than $15 million dollars in electricity savings. This is because CFL bulbs use 66% less electricity to produce the same amount of light as an incandescent bulb and last up to 10 times longer.

The launch will feature a live peformance by Regina's own Jack Semple, one of Canada's premiere guitarists, and guest speakers, including Project Porchlight Executive Director Stuart Hickox, SaskPower President and CEO Pat Youzwa, and a representative from the Provincial government. Mike Abou-Mechrek and Luca Congi, members of your Saskatchewan Roughriders, will also join us to talk about going green.

“We are very excited to have so many special guests attending,” continued Patricia. “And our incredible Project Porchlight staff and volunteers will be on hand to distribute free CFL bulbs and information.”
