Project Porchlight Blog
You don’t need to be an expert on environmental issues to volunteer for Project Porchlight. You don’t need to give up a whole lot of your time, either.
All that is required is a morning or an afternoon, a little enthusiasm, and an interest in helping to protect the environment. And most importantly, the willingness to have some fun!
Project Porchlight is a grassroots campaign, and our success is defined by volunteer support. Our volunteers harness the power of person-to person communication, reaching and influencing people from all walks of life to take part in energy conservation. Project Porchlight volunteers help us distribute energy-efficient compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs in their neighborhoods and their apartment buildings, and at their schools, clubs and places of worship.
This spring, Project Porchlight New Jersey is continuing our campaign to distribute nearly one million free energy-efficient light bulbs to residents across the state—and we need your help! We welcome the participation of groups, workplaces, faith-based communities, sports clubs and schools.
When it comes to protecting the environment, even something as simple as changing a light bulb is important. One simple action leads to other simple actions, and when combined these actions make an enormous difference. So far, Project Porchlight’s distribution of energy-saving CFL bulbs throughout New Jersey has resulted in the reduction of nearly 15 million pounds of greenhouse gas emissions—and that means savings of more than a million dollars for state residents.
Our New Jersey offices are in Caldwell and Voorhees, but you don’t need to visit our offices to volunteer. We will be distributing CFL bulbs throughout the state this spring, and we’d love to come to your town. If you live in select communities in New Jersey, there is a good chance a bulb will be dropped off at your door by our delivery staff or by a volunteer. The best way to make sure you and your neighbors get a bulb is to volunteer to hand them out!
Anyone interested in helping Project Porchlight distribute energy-saving CFL bulbs can email volunteers@porchlight.org. In southern New Jersey they can call 856-768-2700. Residents of central and northern New Jersey can call 973-22605020. Project Porchlight can also be reached at 888-768-2458. Or you can sign up online at www.projectporchlight.org.
Project Porchlight is an initiative of One Change, and the campaign is made possible thanks to funding by the state Board of Public Utilities (BPU) and New Jersey’s Clean Energy Program (NJCEP).
