The final bulb blitz of our Project Porchlight Puget Sound campaign took place in Olympia, WA on October 27, and it was our best-attended Washington blitz to date!! More than 50 volunteers showed up to help us distribute free compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs throughout the area.
“The city of Olympia really came through for our final bulb blitz,” says Project Porchlight Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator Justin Calhoun. “A huge range of community organizations were represented among our volunteers. We had people from Olympia High School, Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Boys & Girls Club of Thurston County, and the Department of Ecology, to name a few.”
Everyone met at the Thurston County Chamber of Commerce to load up on CFL bulbs before heading out to show Olympia residents how they can start saving money and energy in their very own homes. Olympia Mayor Doug Mah (pictured here) joined us to show his support and help deliver the message that simple actions matter.
Together, we delivered 1,036 free energy-saving light bulbs door-to-door in Olympia. Our team’s outstanding work that day brought the grand total of CFL bulbs distributed throughout Puget Sound to 282,000! As a result of our campaign, over a quarter of a million households will be saving money, cutting carbon dioxide emissions, and protecting the environment—all with the simple switch of a light bulb.
From Project Porchlight and everyone at One Change, we want to extend a very special thank you to our partner Puget Sound Energy, our wonderful volunteers, and of course all the Washington communities for giving us such a warm welcome. Without you, none of this would be possible. Thank you for helping us make a difference.
