Project Porchlight makes clean sweep in Dawson Creek
Posted by Amanda | May 13, 2008

May 10th was a special day for Project Porchlight. It marked the official launch of our British Columbia campaign.

Our launch coincided with the Dawson Creek Clean Up. Over 800 volunteers showed up to scour their city, collecting litter and garbage wherever they found it. In between garbage drop-offs, the volunteers made time to stop by the Project Porchlight booth and learn about the success we’ve had in Ontario and Alberta, and our plans for BC.

Over a sumptuous BBQ lunch provided by the Rotary Club of Dawson Creek, the volunteers took in the unveiling of our new Project Porchlight BC packaging. We also signed on over 50 people to distribute CFLs throughout Dawson Creek this month.

Among the attendees were several dignitaries, including: Northern Environmental Action Team Assistant Director Karen Thomas, Dawson Creek Mayor Calvin Kruk, EnCana representatives Lois Wozney and Brian Lieverse, Project Porchlight Executive Director Stuart Hickox, BC Hydro Power Smart specialist Ben Gardiner, and MLA for Peace River South Blair Letstrom.

When we packed up and left Dawson Creek that Saturday evening, it was a little cleaner and a lot brighter than when we found it. Huge kudos to the volunteers for making the Dawson Creek Clean Up such a glowing success.
