Thousands of folks enjoyed the Nutley Street Fair in Nutley, New Jersey, on September 6. The weather was beautiful, and the fair offered plenty of vendors and family activities. This year’s event also featured a new attraction: Project Porchlight was on hand to inspire and educate fairgoers about energy-saving compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs.
A total of 1,000 CFL bulbs were distributed at the fair, part of Project Porchlight New Jersey’s campaign to distribute energy-efficient light bulbs to residents across the state. Project Porchlight is an initiative of One Change, and the campaign is made possible thanks to funding by the state Board of Public Utilities (BPU) and New Jersey’s Clean Energy Program (NJCEP).
“The crowd was very open to hearing about CFL bulbs,” says Project Porchlight Field Representative Joseph Marshall. “They were asking a lot of questions. The people of Nutley definitely wanted to learn more about the CFL bulbs, and they definitely wanted to try them out. Everyone there seemed warm and welcomed the new light bulbs, along with the various information about home efficiency programs and NJCEP initiatives.”
When it comes to protecting our environment, simple actions matter. Even something as simple as changing a light bulb can make a difference. “Project Porchlight is spreading information. It’s important to let everybody know about ways to be more energy efficient,” says Joseph. “We all need to protect the environment because we all live here. This is our planet. We want to keep it safe and clean.”
