Project Porchlight’s Clayton Blitz on July 31 in Clayton, New Jersey, was a tremendous success!
A diverse group of 37 residents—including Mayor Jeff Radio—worked their way through the borough to educate their friends and neighbors about the energy savings offered by compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs as well as the energy efficiency programs that are available through New Jersey’s Clean Energy Program (NJCEP). The volunteers were upbeat and positive, and everybody was excited about doing something good for their community.
A total of 869 CFL bulbs were distributed that day, part of Project Porchlight New Jersey’s campaign to distribute energy-efficient light bulbs to residents across the state. Project Porchlight is an initiative of One Change, and the campaign is made possible thanks to funding by the state Board of Public Utilities (BPU) and the NJCEP.
“The Blitz was great,” says Joe Abate, Chairman of Clayton’s Environmental Commission. “We distributed a lot of bulbs. We not only helped reduce electric costs for the residents, but we also reduced our carbon footprint in Clayton, and you can’t beat that!”
CFL bulbs use up to 75 percent less energy than old-fashioned incandescent bulbs, which means that CFL bulbs mean lower costs, reduced demand for electricity, and, ultimately, less pollution.
Mayor Radio was thrilled to have Project Porchlight in Clayton. “The Clayton Blitz was a great initiative to assist our community in being aware of energy conservation and provide residents with the opportunity to save on their electric bill on a monthly basis,” he says. “It was a great opportunity for neighbors to meet neighbors and to educate each other and our senior citizens about ways to conserve energy.”
When it comes to protecting our environment, simple actions really do matter! Even something as simple as changing a light bulb can make a difference.
By connecting with state residents one at a time, Project Porchlight is empowering people of all backgrounds to make smart, energy-efficient choices that protect the environment. “Many people in the state will be come become more environmentally conscious and aware because of Project Porchlight,” says Joe. “We only have one planet to save, and Project Porchlight is a piece of the puzzle.”
