Newark Mayor helps ring in the green season
Posted by Amanda | December 3, 2008

The countdown is on to the December 13th Newark Bulb Blitz!

Project Porchlight made its presence known yesterday at the “Newark Conserves” Energy and Recycling Awareness Initiative launch. The December 2nd event was held in the Rotunda of Newark City Hall, and boasted an impressive line-up of speakers. Dignitaries included Newark Mayor Cory A. Booker (pictured here), Councilman-at-Large Donald M. Payne, Jr., Sustainability Officer (AICP) Chelsea Albucher, and Commissioner Joseph Fiordaliso of the Board of Public Utilities—proud sponsor of Project Porchlight New Jersey.

Many of the speeches encouraged home-buyers and homeowners to take a home energy analysis, and find ways of saving energy and reducing electricity costs. It was the perfect venue to promote the use of energy efficient CFLs, and to recruit volunteers for our upcoming Newark Bulb Blitz.

For those of you who missed the event, here are the details on our upcoming Newark Bulb Blitz:

Saturday, December 13th
10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
John F. Kennedy Recreation Center
211 W. Kinney Street

We’re looking forward to reuniting with the dozens of volunteers who signed up yesterday, and to seeing as many new faces as Newark can offer! Thank you one and all for such an enthusiastic response, and for committing to making New Jersey green!!

And thank you to the local media for doing such a great job covering the event: News 12, Portuguese newspaper 24 Horas, My9 News, and the Newark City Press.
