People making smart energy choices. Volunteers converting grassroots environmental awareness into action.

If you live in Calgary, it may not be Santa’s sleigh you hear on your roof this Christmas. That stomping could well be the sound of our sponsors—the Government of Alberta, EnCana Corporation and the City of Calgary—getting ready to bring you another load of free CFLs. At the December 6th Calgary Bulb Blitz, Project Porchlight staff and volunteers realized that CFLs make the perfect gift—whether it be a stocking stuffer, Secret Santa surprise or gift exchange.

CFLs shed old light on greenhouse-gas problem
Don Butler, Ottawa Citizen, October 15, 2008--Switching to more efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs would cut lighting energy demand by nearly 40 per cent and eliminate 900 million tonnes of greenhouse gases a year globally by 2030, according to a U.S. study.

One Change was honoured to be a part of the first annual Corporate Social Responsibility Conference on December 3rd.

One change doesn’t sound so small when 700,000 people do it.
That’s exactly what’s happened so far in Alberta this year. 700,000 households have accepted one of our CFLs, making one change that’s added up to something really big.

Louis Cheng is the first to tell you he’s just an average, ordinary guy. But that didn’t stop the Calgary Science School teacher from making a difference in his community.

When Jack Peace showed up at the Calgary Farmers’ Market on November 1st to volunteer for Project Porchlight, he was running a little late. He’d just come from the Federation of Calgary Communities where he was attending a Partners in Planning course.

The popular Calgary Farmers’ Market turned out to be an ideal venue for Project Porchlight. On November 1st and 2nd, thousands of Calgary residents came out to enjoy the fresh baked goods, vegetables, meats and ethnic foods, and browse the clothing and crafts booths.

Project Porchlight is officially out of the gates in Edmonton and Calgary! The October 16th media launch went off without a hitch at the Royal Alberta Museum.

The stage is set. The band is ready to play. The coffee and hot chocolate are warm. And the food is fresh. Now all we need is you!
