CFLs shed old light on greenhouse-gas problem
Don Butler, Ottawa Citizen, October 15, 2008--Switching to more efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs would cut lighting energy demand by nearly 40 per cent and eliminate 900 million tonnes of greenhouse gases a year globally by 2030, according to a U.S. study.

One Change was honoured to be a part of the first annual Corporate Social Responsibility Conference on December 3rd.

One change doesn’t sound so small when 700,000 people do it.

300,000 Energy Efficient Bulbs to Light up Alberta as part of National Environmental Campaign

The Red Deer Westerner Days Fair certainly had an appropriate slogan this year: "It's a Scream!" Whether it was cries of delight over cotton candy and caramel apples, shrieks of pleasure on the tilt-a-whirl, or yelps of happy surprise at receiving a free CFL, the sounds of excitement filled the air at the event's July 16th opening.

Kudos to Wayne Porter and the other volunteers from Michener Services Alternatives! They helped light up the June 6th Central Alberta Persons with Disabilities event by handing out free CFLs for Project Porchlight.

June 4th was a day to remember at the Red Deer Provincial Building. All the biggest and brightest stars stepped out for the Red Deer Environmental Fair, and Project Porchlight was there to hand out some of our best and brightest CFLs.

Project Porchlight wouldn't be where it is today without the thousands of volunteers who hoofed it around their neighbourhoods delivering light bulbs. But there's a crucial step between when the CFLs are boxed at the factory and when they're green-bagged by our team: they have to be transported to each of the destination cities across Canada.

Derrick Richards wears many hats. He's Deputy Fire Chief at Michener Services in Red Deer. And he's the Group Commissioner and a Scouts Canada Leader for the Red Deer 18th Morrisroe Scouts.
