But when Project Porchlight Compliance Officer Karima Houston recently spent a day educating Pathmark customers about energy efficiency, she discovered that some of the store’s employees could learn more about the energy savings offered by the compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs that are sold at the store

As part of Project Porchlight New Jersey’s campaign to educate consumers across the state about energy efficiency, we reach out to folks at events ranging from county fairs and farmers’ markets to sporting events and educational seminars.

Project Porchlight New Jersey educates state residents about energy efficiency and the ways that saving energy can help protect the environment. One great place to reach people is where they shop, which is why Project Porchlight came to Livingston Mall in Livingston, New Jersey, on December 26 and 27.

Thinking back on my early childhood (I’m talking 70’s & 80’s), we didn’t do much recycling, until, I’d say, the late 80’s. It’s then that I remember starting to crush soda cans, and saving newspapers. As a young child, growing up in Southern NJ, I recall driving by landfills – huge, hulking, smelly things, and my young mind wondering at the mass quantities of garbage that it took to create them
